The VBX system is a high-quality, very cost-effective voice messaging andtelephone solution that solves voice information and telephonetransaction problems. VBX supports multiple messaging ports in standardSun386i configurations and features an open application architecture;with powerful new tools for programmers and nonprogrammers alike. VBXtakes maximum advantage of the multitasking application environment ofUNIX to optimize system resources. The VBX 400 is a four-port controllerboard that provides a hardware platform to process any voice or telephoneapplication on four telephone lines simultaneously. It plugs directlyinto the Sun386i's PC/AT compatible backplane, with multiple VBX 400'sfitting into any available slot. The VBX 400 contains a digital signalprocessor, a codec, an array processor, 8K words of RAM, and a telephoneline interface for each of its four voice processing ports.The resources of the VBX 400 are managed by its own on-board operatingsystem, VMOS. With VMOS, each of the VBX 400's ports can simultaneouslyexecute communication with the Sun386i, process speech, and processtelephone calls. Under software control, each port on the VBS 400captures voice and records it digitally onto the system's disk forplayback upon demand.
